Mr. Ahmed Attaf receives the Deputy Director General of IOM

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, received Sunday in Algiers, the Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, candidate to lead this organization of the United Nations system.
The discussions focused on the prospects for strengthening the role of the IOM in fulfilling its mandate, which is essentially to ensure a humane and orderly management of migration according to a comprehensive approach based on international legality and cooperation.
Mr. Attaf took this opportunity to stress the utmost importance that Algeria attaches to the migration issue and cooperation with the IOM.
Recalling the tremendous efforts that Algeria deploys as a country of immigration and emigration, the Minister reiterated the vision of Algeria which prioritizes preventive action and addressing the root causes of this phenomenon and the creation of favorable conditions for the settlement of populations in countries and localities of origin through appropriate and enhanced international cooperation.
